Women from the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, MoFT, joined the country on Monday 8th March to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
Wearing the official colour purple for the event, the women participated in the early morning parade from the Honiara City Council to the National Museum.
“I am happy”, Personal Secretary Ms Noella Kauhusia from the Treasury Division said with a big smile, as she stood with her workmates.
“I enjoyed the entertainment and just being here with all these other women.”
Assistant Accountant General, Ms Elda Leah Wate, also from the Treasury Division said she was inspired by the speeches presented during the program.
“It was highlighted as a reminder for us that we women have to face challenges to achieve our goals. We are happy to have a break from the office, and the parade was a good exercise too.”
“I am also thankful to the men who turned up for the event. There were two of them from Finance. It’s good that they are supporting us.”
Meanwhile, Chief Statistician Anterlyn Tuzakana from the National Statistics Office stressed it was a day to celebrate the achievement of our Women in Solomon Islands in all areas whether culturally, socially, economically and achievement in politics.

“It is also a day to reflect on the gender gaps that exist within our society”, she said.
“Government Ministries and responsible organisations should be acknowledged for promoting SDG 5 “Achieve gender equality and empower all women’s and girls.”
Mrs Tuzakana said she was inspired by one of the Outstanding women in Solomon Island Mrs Rose Sese who shared her story during the program.
“To all women in Solomon Islands, I acknowledge our individual contribution that bring changes to our Nation Solomon Islands .We play a very important role to our society.”
