A team from Solomon Power has met with the National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MOFT) to explain the new tariff calculations it established early this year.
The group spent some time yesterday with MOFT-NSO’s Special Advisor Dr. Willie Lahari, Senior Statistician Anna Luvu and two other officers, Chief Statistician Andrew Kakate and Esther Paraerae from the Economics Unit.
Mrs Luvu requested the team’s presence to discuss the new tariff calculations it has imposed for domestic users in the country given its broader implications and impact on the country’s inflation and inflation measure.
“It is important that we understand it because this is what is in the Consumer Price Index, CPI basket and it will affect our CPI data collection.
The team from Solomon Power comprising of Lyndel Silas, Rose Tate, and Darwin Ririmae explained the two main types of charges – non-fuel and fuel charge, and the exclusion of the non-network charges that is now included in the non-fuel charge.
Other key issues discussed included the study that was undertaken to inform decisions around the Electricity (Charges for Supply) Regulation 2021.
The New Electricity Regulations came into effect in May this year.
The Minister for Finance and Treasury Harry Kuma announced the new regulations in April this year.
